Tucson School for the Blind Gains State Approval to Enroll Public School Students

The Tucson School for the Blind (TSB), a private nonprofit institution, has received certification from the Arizona Education Department to enroll students currently attending public schools. This approval allows visually impaired students to access TSB's specialized services without paying tuition. Director Kate Scally Howell emphasized the importance of providing a community where students can learn alongside peers using canes and learning Braille. Families interested in transferring their children to TSB will collaborate with their home districts and the Education Department’s Exceptional Student Services for approval. The certification qualifies TSB to serve students across 15 special education categories, including visual impairment and emotional disability.
