New Study Explores Experiences of Vision Professionals with Visual Impairments

A groundbreaking study led by Dr. Erika Fundelius at The University of British Columbia is delving into the lives and careers of vision professionals with visual impairments. The research seeks to understand the motivations and challenges faced by individuals with visual impairments who pursue careers as teachers of students with visual impairments or orientation and mobility specialists.

This study will examine how these professionals navigate societal and organizational attitudes and enhance accessibility. It aims to capture their perspectives on their contributions to education in K-12 settings.

Participants in this research will complete an anonymous, 10-minute Qualtrics survey. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosed visual impairment, be working or have worked in elementary and secondary education settings, and reside in Canada or the United States or their territories.

This effort not only spotlights the unique challenges these professionals face but also celebrates their vital role in educating students with visual impairments. The study encourages qualified individuals to participate and share their invaluable insights.
