Microchip Implant Restores Reading Ability to Blind Patients
Source: Stanford Report
A groundbreaking retinal device developed by Stanford professor Daniel Palanker has enabled patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to regain functional vision. Seventy-year-old Sheila Irvine, who lost her sight due to AMD, participated in a clinical trial where a microchip was implanted under her retina. Post-surgery, Sheila expressed her gratitude, stating, 'My darling man, thank you so much for what you’ve done for me. You can imagine how I feel. It’s changed so much.' The trial included 38 participants across five European countries, with 27 regaining the ability to read letters and words using specialized glasses. (news.stanford.edu)
