Neuralink Announces Engineering Milestone for Blindsight Vision Implant
Source: The Blind Bridge
Neuralink has declared its Blindsight implant as engineering-ready, aiming to deliver visual information directly to the brain, bypassing the optic nerves. This development could potentially enable individuals who are completely blind or have never experienced sight to perceive visual stimuli. The device holds an FDA Breakthrough Device designation since September 2024; however, it has not yet received approval for human use, and no clinical demonstrations of restored vision have been conducted to date. This announcement marks a significant engineering achievement, though the device remains unavailable for public use pending further regulatory approvals.
