NatWest Partners with Be My Eyes for Groundbreaking Banking Accessibility Pilot
Source: Be My Eyes Blog
Voice of the Blind has learned that NatWest is joining forces with Be My Eyes to launch an innovative pilot project designed to enhance banking accessibility for blind and low vision customers. As the first UK bank to partner with Be My Eyes, NatWest will utilize the Service Directory and Service Connect platforms to facilitate real-time, secure visual support.
Real-Time Assistance for Enhanced Independence
Starting August 21, 2026, a select group of blind and low vision NatWest customers will have access to secure video calls with trained NatWest colleagues. These calls, supported by the Be My Eyes app, allow customers to make use of their phone camera or smart glasses as visual aids. During these interactions, NatWest colleagues guide customers verbally, assisting them with daily banking tasks such as reading letters or activating new cards. This free service requires no appointments, making banking more accessible and independent for users.
The Vision Behind the Pilot
The initiative, led by NatWest’s Open Innovation team, aims to redefine banking experiences by leveraging technology to support blind or low vision customers. The pilot will explore further opportunities to expand live visual support and improve services. Insights gathered will shape the future phases of the program with hopes to broaden customer participation by the end of 2026.
Collaboration and Security
NatWest's collaboration with Be My Eyes reflects a commitment to inclusion, innovation, and customer security. The bank emphasizes the protection of personal information, assuring customers they will never be asked to disclose sensitive details like PINs or passwords.
Be My Eyes was founded by Hans Jørgen Wiberg, a low vision Danish craftsman, to provide visual assistance through a volunteer network. Since its launch in 2015, the platform has grown to support users worldwide in over 180 languages, partnering with major companies like Microsoft and Google.
