The Braille Institute has announced the finalists for the 2026 Braille Challenge Finals, following a record-breaking year of participation. Over 2,000 students from 37 U.S. states and six countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the United States, competed in this year's events. The Braille Challenge, now in its 26th year, is the only academic competition of its kind for students who are blind or visually impaired. Participants are tested across five core skill areas: reading comprehension, spelling, speed and accuracy, proofreading, and interpreting tactile graphics. This year marked several milestones, including Kenya hosting its first-ever regional event with 86 student participants. More than 1,500 volunteers supported the 2026 season, contributing to the program's continued global growth. Rachel Antoine, Senior Director of International Programs at Braille Institute, emphasized that the Braille Challenge continues to open doors for students by building confidence and critical literacy skills.
