Brain-Computer Interface Enables Communication for ALS Patient

A recent study published in Nature Medicine demonstrates that a person with severe paralysis due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) can use a brain-computer interface (BCI) at home to communicate and interact with digital platforms independently. Developed by researchers at UC Davis, Brown University, and Mass General Brigham Neuroscience Institute, the BCI system allows the user to 'speak' accurately and operate digital devices without researcher support. This advancement marks a significant step toward practical assistive technology for individuals with severe speech and motor impairments.
