NLS Expands Library Services for Patrons Living Overseas
Source: NLS BARD
The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled has rolled out dedicated services for patrons who live outside the United States.
American citizens and their dependents living abroad can now access the full range of NLS materials and programs. This includes talking books, braille materials, and digital downloads through the BARD service.
The overseas program removes geographic barriers that previously limited access to these essential resources. Patrons can request materials through the same systems used domestically, with shipping arrangements tailored for international delivery.
Eligible overseas patrons include U.S. citizens, their spouses, and dependent children living in foreign countries. Military families stationed abroad also qualify for these expanded services.
The program addresses a long-standing gap in service delivery. Many American expats with print disabilities had limited options for accessing talking books and braille materials while living overseas.
Patrons interested in overseas services can contact NLS directly to verify eligibility and set up their accounts. The service maintains the same high standards for material quality and customer support that domestic patrons receive.
