Mississippi Emerge Center for the Blind Hosts Inaugural White Cane Safety Day Walk
The Mississippi Emerge Center for the Blind held its first White Cane Safety Day Walk in Long Beach, Mississippi, to raise awareness about independence, accessibility, and safety for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Participants walked a one-mile route from the Long Beach Pavilion to the Mississippi Emerge Center for the Blind. The event also featured the dedication of a new Mississippi Department of Transportation sign along Highway 90. The white cane symbolizes freedom, confidence, and independence, signaling to drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and yield, thereby promoting safer and more inclusive communities.
