The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) has called for enhanced enforcement of disability rights laws, improved pedestrian infrastructure, and equal employment opportunities for individuals with visual impairments. Speaking at the 2026 International White Cane and Safety Day symposium organized by the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Lagos State Chapter, FNSB Executive Secretary Oluwamayowa Oke emphasized the need for effective implementation of existing disability laws. Oke highlighted that while the white cane supports independent mobility, it cannot compensate for poorly designed roads, obstructed walkways, inaccessible public buildings, and discriminatory employment practices. This advocacy underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the visually impaired community in Nigeria and the necessity for systemic changes to promote inclusivity and safety.
