Bank of England Seeks Feedback on Tactile Markings for Banknotes
Source: Braillists Foundation
The Bank of England wants to hear from the blind and partially sighted community regarding their experiences with the polymer banknotes released a decade ago. As the 10-year anniversary of these notes draws near, the bank aims to gather valuable insights to ensure these banknotes meet the needs of all citizens across the UK.
The introduction of tactile markings on these polymer banknotes was a significant development for accessibility. These features are designed to help individuals who are blind or have low vision to identify different denominations by touch. This feedback initiative provides an opportunity for members of the community to voice their thoughts and suggest improvements.
To participate, individuals can share their experiences, thoughts about the current tactile features, and propose any changes they believe could enhance accessibility. The deadline for submitting feedback is 25 October.
This engagement effort by the Bank of England reflects a commitment to inclusivity in currency design, a necessary consideration for ensuring equal access.
Voice of the Blind encourages community members to take part in this consultation process, ensuring diverse voices are heard and considered in the future design of banknotes.
