Arizona State School for the Deaf and the Blind Found in Violation of Federal Special Education Law

The Arizona State School for the Deaf and the Blind (ASDB) has been found in violation of federal special education law following a complaint regarding its decision to relocate to Oro Valley. In January, ASDB announced plans to close its Tucson campus and move operations to a new facility in Oro Valley, primarily serving deaf students, while blind or visually impaired students were to return to their home districts. The University of Arizona’s Education Advocacy Clinic filed a complaint alleging that ASDB failed to accommodate the individual needs of blind and visually impaired students, as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
