Apple Unveils Updated Mac Mini and Mac Studio: Packed with Power and Connectivity

Apple has introduced significant updates to the Mac mini and Mac Studio, emphasizing enhanced performance and connectivity. The latest updates include the introduction of the M6 Chip for Mac mini and the M5 Ultra Chip for Mac Studio.

Mac mini Enhancements

The new Mac mini, powered by the M6 chip, promises substantial improvements. According to Apple's press release, users can expect up to four times faster AI performance, along with doubled graphics and storage speeds. Connectivity is also boosted with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 2.5 gigabit Ethernet.

Apple provides specific performance claims for the M6 chip. Users will see up to 13.5 times faster LLM prompt processing in LM Studio compared to the Mac mini with M1 chip, and up to 4.8 times faster than the M4. Spreadsheet calculations in Microsoft Excel are up to 2.3 times faster compared to the M1, and gaming performance in Cyberpunk 2077 shows up to twice the speed of the M4.

Mac mini buyers can also opt for the M5 Pro chip, offering up to 8.5 times faster LLM prompt processing compared to the M2 Pro, and significantly improved rendering and image processing speeds in applications like Blender and Affinity.

Mac Studio Upgrades

The new Mac Studio now includes the M5 Max and the advanced M5 Ultra chips, as well as Thunderbolt 5, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. A new SSD architecture doubles the previous generation’s speed.

The M5 Max delivers an impressive 3.9 times improvement in AI performance over its predecessor, while the M5 Ultra offers up to 4.3 times the peak AI performance of the previous M3 Ultra, and a massive 9.8 times that of the M1 Ultra.

Specific performance boosts with the M5 Max include up to 10.7 times faster LLM prompt processing when compared to the M1 Max, and enhancements in text-to-image performance and Magic Mask performance in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

The M5 Ultra extends these advancements further, providing up to 15.4 times faster ML training performance in Foundry Nuke and significant improvements in LLM prompt processing and text-to-image tasks.

These new models can already be preordered, with the Mac mini starting at US $899, and shipping set to begin on September 22.
