Polish Foundation Empowers Blind Sailors to Navigate the Baltic Sea
Source: TVP World
A Polish foundation, Zobaczyć Morze ('See the Sea'), is challenging perceptions by enabling blind individuals to helm sailing ships across the Baltic Sea. Since 2006, nearly 1,800 participants, about half of whom are blind or visually impaired, have taken part in these voyages. The foundation developed a device called 'gaduła' ('chatterbox') that provides real-time auditory compass readings, allowing blind sailors to steer accurately. This initiative not only enhances sailing skills but also fosters independence and confidence among participants. A documentary detailing one of these voyages is set for release later this year.
