New Jersey Celebrates Blindness Awareness Night and Awards Scholarships to Visually Impaired Students

On July 2026, the New Jersey Department of Human Services' Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) hosted a Blindness Awareness Night at a Trenton Thunder baseball game. The event honored the achievements of individuals who are blind, deafblind, and visually impaired, highlighting their potential and accomplishments. Human Services Commissioner Stephen Cha emphasized the importance of community inclusion and raising awareness about the capabilities of these individuals. During the event, CBVI awarded scholarships to students who are blind, deafblind, and visually impaired, aiming to alleviate financial challenges associated with higher education and celebrate their exceptional talents. Deputy Commissioner for Aging and Disability Services Kaylee McGuire noted that these scholarships ensure access to education and serve as a celebration of the students' achievements.
