Meta has announced a significant initiative to support blind veterans by donating Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to every legally blind veteran in the United States. This program is expected to benefit over 130,000 individuals. The smart glasses are equipped with built-in cameras and artificial intelligence capabilities that can read text aloud, describe surroundings, identify objects, and assist with navigation. This technology aims to enhance independence and daily functionality for veterans experiencing vision loss. In collaboration with the Blinded Veterans Association, Meta will provide the glasses at no cost, along with hands-on training, monthly webinars, and guides to help veterans integrate this assistive technology into their lives. The initiative was partly inspired by U.S. Army veteran Don Overton, who worked with Meta’s wearables team to enhance features for blind users. (audacy.com)
