Meta, in collaboration with Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera and EssilorLuxottica, has initiated a pilot project titled “Sensing Art – Discovering Masterpieces Beyond What Meets the Eye.” This initiative aims to make art more accessible for individuals who are blind or have low vision by integrating AI-powered glasses with the museum’s existing Grande Brera app. The app features the DescriVedendo tour, which provides audio descriptions of artworks. Visitors can activate artwork recognition through the glasses and listen to corresponding audio descriptions via built-in open-ear speakers. Additional tools include Meta AI for contextual questions and Be My Eyes for real-time support. The project was developed with input from Italy’s leading sight loss charities to ensure it meets the needs of the visually impaired community. The tour is available by reservation at the Pinacoteca di Brera from Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
