The Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired recently hosted 'White Cane Day,' an event designed to showcase how blind and visually impaired students navigate daily life. Students led approximately 15 stations at the 'Rocking Independence' event, where guests learned about Braille, white cane travel, and assistive technology. Organizers emphasized that the event highlighted independence and access for the blind and visually impaired community. Alisha Butler, Teacher of the Year at the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired, stated, 'Today's goal was to spread awareness, form a better relationship with our community, meet and greet new possible community partners, and just let our students really be able to be the advocates for themselves and teach the community about what amazing things they do each and every day and the things that they accomplish.' The event also featured a panel held for students. (lucee.wbrz.com)
