On September 20, 2026, approximately 30 members of the Hawaii Association of the Blind participated in a White Cane Refresher Event aboard Honolulu's Skyline transit system. The event, held at the Middle Street Transit Center Station, aimed to enhance the independence of blind and visually impaired riders by familiarizing them with the system's accessibility features.
Participants, guided by trained Orientation and Mobility Instructors, practiced using passenger assistance intercoms, elevators, stairways, and fare vending equipment. They also learned to obtain and use a HOLO card, reviewed tactile maps, and navigated the station to safely board and exit Skyline trains. This initiative underscores the importance of accessible public transportation and the community's commitment to empowering visually impaired individuals.
