Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired Hosts Rededication Ceremony
The Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI), in partnership with the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce, will celebrate its rich history, lasting impact, and continued commitment to empowering people who are blind or visually impaired during a special rededication ceremony and ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at its headquarters at 507 Kent St. The rededication ceremony, which will include remarks by CABVI officials and guided tours, celebrates the completion of a major renovation project at CABVI's headquarters. The building, originally constructed in 1922 for retail and automotive storage, was later purchased by General Electric and used as a radio receiver factory before being donated to CABVI in 1979. Following more than six years of planning and preparation, in 2024, the facility began a comprehensive transformation designed to better support CABVI's mission and the needs of employees, program participants, and visitors.
