Bridge Brigade Completes First Mackinac Bridge Walk, Showcasing Achievements of Blind and Low-Vision Students

On September 7, 2026, the Bridge Brigade, a group organized by Michigan’s Bureau of Services for Blind Persons, successfully completed their inaugural walk across the Mackinac Bridge. This event highlighted the accomplishments of blind and low-vision students who have undergone extensive mobility training.

Participants, including students, families, and mobility instructors, traversed the five-mile span, marking a significant milestone in their journey toward greater independence. Riley Crozier, a participant, expressed her sense of achievement, stating, “Physically tiring, but I feel accomplished.”

The Bridge Brigade's formation underscores the commitment to empowering visually impaired individuals through practical experiences and community support. Mike Pemble, director of the bureau, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering confidence and self-reliance among participants.
