Blind Veterans in Des Moines to Receive Free AI Glasses
Source: Axios
Legally blind U.S. military veterans in Des Moines have the opportunity to receive free AI-powered glasses today, October 7, 2026. The American Council of the Blind is hosting the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Iowa Department for the Blind, located at 524 Fourth St. These advanced glasses can read text, identify objects, and describe surroundings, significantly enhancing independence for blind and low-vision individuals. To qualify, veterans must be legally blind, provide proof of veteran status, and possess a compatible smartphone. The initiative was inspired by Army veteran Don Overton, who lost his eyesight during Operation Desert Storm. Priority access during the first hour is given to those who register in advance, though registration does not guarantee receipt of the glasses. (axios.com)
