Atlanta Veteran Gains Independence with Free AI Glasses
Source: Hoodline
Dennis Darnes, a 70-year-old Atlanta veteran who lost his job and home due to blindness caused by glaucoma and cataracts, has found renewed independence through free AI-powered smart glasses. Distributed by the Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI) in Midtown Atlanta, these glasses provide audible descriptions of the environment, enhancing spatial awareness and daily navigation. Darnes discovered CVI through a chance conversation with a fellow bus passenger. The organization, Georgia's only comprehensive low-vision clinic since 1966, taught him how to navigate daily life using touch, sound, and his remaining senses. The AI glasses have significantly improved Darnes's quality of life, allowing him to perform tasks independently and regain confidence. (hoodline.com)
