In Quimper, France, AI-powered smart glasses are significantly enhancing the independence of visually impaired individuals. Local optician reports indicate that 90% of connected eyewear sales are to blind or partially sighted customers. Chantal Sergent, a 60-year-old resident with retinitis pigmentosa, has been using the glasses since March. The device enables her to answer phone calls, have AI read SMS messages and recipes, and identify canned goods, thereby restoring a sense of autonomy. Additionally, the technology assists with computer updates and translates restaurant menus while traveling abroad. Sergent, who has been blind for 17 years, describes the device as life-changing.
